Industry in general has struggled with how to solve friction and corrosion problems.  This article discusses a time tested process to treating metals, plastics and ceramics with the PEC 220 impregnation process.  We at Performance Engineered Components have been utilizing this process industry wide to solve friction and corrosion problems.  This results in less down time and immense cost reductions.

Friction Reducing Treatment

Research efforts were applied to composite cleaning and etching to provide open pore, surgically clean substrates without detrimental effects to the base component.  This feature is very critical for zero defect metal preparation with only the balance involved with actual impregnation.

Impregnation is then accomplished thermally within a controlled thermal chamber.  The polymer materials are converted to a gaseous state, enter the substrate material, fill the voids and surround the molecules of the substrate.  Heat induced expansion of the substrate plays a important role in the fluoropolymer impregnation process.

A cool down sequence is then employed where-in the gaseous polymers reconvert to a solid and become entrapped within the contracting substrate.

Unlike mere coatings, definite penetration of the surface of the treated part occurs during the process.  The process also produces a mechanical and thermal fusion of the polymers within the base metal.

The Friction Fighter PEC 220

The primary function of this coating is lower the coefficients of friction on moving metal to metal parts and built-in lubricity in bearing surfaces.

Thus, the PEC 220 treatment provides superior protection and friction reducing characteristics to all metal to metal surfaces.

Process Engineering

Especially relevant of our initial product recommendations, we request information regarding work piece material, any existing treatments and the specified work environment. Fluorocarbon coatings are dielectric, non-wetting and resistant to heat transfer. Where these factors are critical, it is recommended that samples be tested under actual or simulated service conditions to ensure correct performance.
